Actually, today's theme is more about weight-bearing exercises for your bones, but, sure, jump for joy - why not?! 😁

As we get older, we lose bone density. People tend to focus on calcium supplements for bone strengthening, but you know what really does the most to strengthen bones?
Weight-bearing exercises!

You probably know that one of the hazards of astronaut life is the LOSS of bone density. Why do they lose so much bone so fast?! Because the body is highly efficient. It doesn't waste resources. In zero gravity, there's not much need for strong bones, so the body takes the calcium and uses it for something else. Conversely, if you are handling weights and carrying yourself around in gravity then the body needs strong bones, and it lays down more calcium.

High-impact weight bearing exercises (such as jumping rope, running, dancing, tennis, etc.) are the most effective at building bone, but you should be cautious with this type of exercise if you have joint issues.

Other weight-bearing exercises include lifting weights, hiking, stair-climbing and even gardening!

Swimming, while great for so many other things, is not a weight-bearing exercise, so it is not that helpful for building and strengthening bones.

If you already have osteoporosis, then jumping rope not for you! :-(
Instead, here is a video demonstrating a short osteoporosis-safe workout.

Make sure to include weight-bearing exercises in your routine so that your aging body know that you still need strong bones because you are still using them!!! 🦴
